Combination of Resistors - Physics Class 12
Combination of Resistors—
Resistors are combined in two manner
- Series Combination
- Parallel combination
Series Combination of Resistor—
When resistors are arranged such that first end of one resistor is connected to the one point and the second one is connected to the first end of the second resistor and second resistor is connected to third resistor and so on, the arrangement is called series combination.
Let us have three capacitors of capacitance r1, r2 and r3 which are connected in series with a voltage source ‘V’ which set up a ‘i’ in the circuit.
If voltage across each resistor is V1, V2 and V3 respectively then,
Parallel Combination of Resistors—
When resistors are arranged such that one ends of all the resistors are connected to one common point and the second end of all the resistors are connected to another common point, the arrangement is called parallel combination.
Let us have three resistors of resistances r1, r2 and r3 which are connected in parallel with a Voltage Source ‘V’ which set up a current i1, i2 and i3 in each resisitor respectively. Since, the resistors are in parallel they have same potential difference between their ends, then
